Peak season
Fall through early winter, with activity in garages and crawlspaces year-round.
Home / Pests / Mice & Rodents
When the nights turn cold, mice start looking for a way inside. We find how they are getting in, deal with the ones already there, and help keep the next wave out.
Know the pest
The two mice North Idaho homeowners run into most are the house mouse and the deer mouse. Both spend the summer outdoors in fields, woodpiles, and landscaping, then push toward garages, crawlspaces, and wall voids as temperatures drop in September and October.
A mouse can squeeze through a gap about the width of a pencil. Garage door seals, utility and plumbing penetrations, foundation vents, and gaps around siding are the usual entry points, especially on homes that back up to open ground or timber.

Wall voids, attics, crawlspaces, garages, and cluttered storage areas.
Deer mice are the main carrier of hantavirus in the western U.S., so droppings should never be swept or vacuumed dry.
How we handle it
Our Advanced plan combines general pest and rodent control in one service. Learn about Advanced Pest Control.
Step 1
We walk the property to find activity, entry points, and the conditions drawing mice in.
Step 2
Targeted rodent control for the mice already inside or around the structure.
Step 3
Practical recommendations for sealing entry points and follow-up service to keep activity down.
Common questions
Through very small gaps. A mouse can fit through an opening about a quarter inch wide, so worn garage door seals, gaps around pipes and wires, foundation vents, and openings under siding are common entry points.
Deer mice can carry hantavirus, which spreads through dust from droppings and nesting material. The CDC recommends wetting droppings with a disinfectant or bleach solution and wiping them up with gloves on, rather than sweeping or vacuuming them.
Mice spend the warm months outdoors. As temperatures drop and food gets scarce in fall, they move toward the warmth and shelter of homes, garages, and outbuildings.
